The passing of Wangari Maathai

We join our friends in Kenya and around the world in mourning the passing of our  friend and mentor Wangari Maathai on September 25th, 2011. Her gifts to the world will grow for generations–the trees she planted across the Kenyan landscape with the Green Belt Movement and the ideas she planted in us and millions of others regarding issues of peace and justice.

Wangari was kind enough to meet with us while we were filming NOBELITY  just after she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. In addition to her appearance in that film we have these interview segments of her available on You Tube.

She was one of the key members of the Nobel Women’s Initiative who continue to amplify the voice of women around the world in struggles of equality. Here is their statement http://nobelwomensinitiative.org/2011/09/women-laureates-message-on-death-of-wangari-maathai/?ref=18

Rest in peace Wangari. We will miss you.
